Korogocho Slums is the third largest informal settlement after Kibera and Mathare in Nairobi, Kenya.
Korogocho has an approximate population of 150,000 people with almost half of residents being children.
Like in all slums in Nairobi, Korogocho is characterized by high incidents of unemployment, drug abuse and
trafficking, environmental degradation, poor sanitation, poor housing and disease (HIV/AIDS). This has resulted
in a high incidence of family breakdown abuse and violence which has impacted on the welfare and wellbeing of
the children. There is a high incidence of physical, emotional and sexual abuse of children. Children are also
exploited for labor.
In the past, interventions have been employed to address the situation of women and youths
in Korogochio, but very little has been done for children.
